Raja Balwant Singh College, Agra (formerly Balwant Rajput College, Agra), was established way back in 1885 by Raja Balwant Singh Ji of Awagarh state. Initially it was started as Balwant Rajput High School. Col. Dobson and Sir E.H. Forsyth were its Headmasters for quite long period. Balwant Educational Society was created in order to safeguard the interests of this institution. The High school was raised to the level of an intermediate college in 1928 and to that of a degree college in 1940. The pace of development of the college from 1940 onwards has almost been breath-taking and is apparent from its gigantic stature presently. At present Raja Balwant Singh College, Agra, is spread over 1000 acres of land and 5 campuses.

The college is having a number of faculties including Arts, Science, Education, Library Science and Agriculture and teaching at postgraduate level is done in as many as 31 subjects. The college also has 6 agriculture projects funded by ICAR, New Delhi and Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India including two Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs). It is supposed to be the largest college of Asia Pacific region as far as the area covered and number of subjects taught are concerned. Most importantly, it is one of the most prestigious educational institutes of Northern India with a strong legacy of imparting quality education. A number of prominent educationists, entrepreneurs, bureaucrats and political leaders of Northern India owe their education to Raja Balwant Singh College, Agra. In the year 2017, the college has added one more feather to its cap by getting accredited as A+ by NAAC and thereby becoming the only college of the entire state of Uttar Pradesh to get A+ Grade from NAAC.

The Faculty of Engineering and Technology was started in the year 1996 with three branches of engineering viz. Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering and Food Technology. The branch of Chemical Engineering was added in the year 1999. In the year 2004, two more branches of Biotechnology and Mechanical Engineering were added. In the year 2006, M.Tech. course in Food Technology was added with an intake of 18 Seats. B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering and in Civil Engineering and M.Tech. course in Electronics & Communication Engineering were added in the academic session 2012-13. M.Tech. Course in Bio-technology and Computer Science & Engineering were added in the academic session 2014-15.

Moreover, Faculty of Management & Computer Application ( FMCA ) was established in 1999 as one of the groups of Raja Balwant Singh College, Agra under the aegis of Balwant Educational Society for imparting quality professional education to all the sections of the society. In 2012, FMCA got upgraded as "Raja Balwant Singh Management Technical Campus, Agra" (RBSMTC, Agra).
